Recently, I had too many balls in the air: trying to manage work commitments, write an agenda for a charity meeting, plan a getaway with friends and trying to move to week 4 in Couch to 5k. I realised I needed help - a few practical shortcuts to stay on top of everything. Not a complete life makeover, just a handful of clever life hacks that make life a little easier.
So, this month's 5 Things focuses on simple, achievable hacks that can help streamline everyday tasks, improve productivity and, as a bonus, show ways to earn or save a little extra cash. Nothing requires a complete lifestyle overhaul, rather they are small changes that can add up to meaningful benefits over time.
Listen: Hacks and Hustles BBC Sounds
This 8-part series covers a wide range of hacks as well as a number of episodes on side hustles to make you money. What makes the series particularly good is its focus on real people and their experiences, so you can imagine how you would do it. The Vinted episode is especially memorable, not only for its money-saving insights but also for an anecdote featuring golf trousers. The episodes are pretty short, so it won’t take you long to get through them all.
Watch: Productivity Hacks Career Contessa
This YouTube series Work in progress covers job searches, job interviews, resumes, LinkedIn, pay raises and money, career growth, leadership and manager tips, workplace interpersonal skills, wellness advice, work-life balance, confidence, career transitions, workplace toxicity, and more! Again, the videos are short and contain really simple and actionable advice, which are supported by downloadable templates and checklists. This is a good series!

This article provides a collection of straightforward tips designed to save time, reduce waste and make everyday tasks easier. Some of these things I knew and not every tip will suit everyone. The suggestion of rubbing walnuts on scratched furniture may divide opinion, but ideas such as freezing fresh herbs in ice-cube trays are practical, cost-effective and reduce food waste.
