Leigh’s Five Listen, Watch, Read, Sign Up To and Do (March 2023)

I have a load of ‘wouldn’t it be great ifs….’ Wouldn’t it be great if Wales played better rugby? Wouldn’t it be great if the bus turned up as I got off the train? (I DREAM about integrated transport). Wouldn’t it be great if my work-life balance was in balance? (Yes, I know that one is in my control). And I’m going to put this one out there and say wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t need IWD? Now bear with me – I’m not trying to avoid celebrating the achievements of women, I’m trying to avoid having one day that celebrates the achievements of women. But as I’m told so often told…we are where we are (does that annoy anyone else?) so I’m going to use this month’s 5LWRSUD to search out amazing women and amazing women that don’t hear much about.

Listen: Intrepid Women BBC Sounds

How can you resist a podcast called Intrepid Women? There’s 4 of them, the podcasts are only 15 minutes long and a bit old (1980) but what amazing women!!!

Watch: Trinity in The Matrix Trilogy

I’m not a sci-fi person in any shape or form but I loved the character of Trinity in the Matrix series. Yes, she ‘gets the boy’ but she’s certainly not there as the love interest. It was the 1st time I had seen such a strong female character that gave the men a run for their money, by just being as good as them. Played by Carrie-Ann Moss, she’s not a super hero (well no more than the men are), she’s tough, uncompromising but leads her team with all of those traits and abilities that great female leaders have. An amazing woman!

Read: Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World: Kate Pankhurst (2016) Via Amazon

This book is aimed at young people (let’s start them young) and is an introduction to a few incredible women who have shaped the world. Great illustrations and full of facts about amazing women such as Mary Anning, Mary Seacole and Agent Fifi - along with lots of other really well known amazing women.

Sign up to: to The Women-Space Boudicca Collective open event on March 8th 12.00-13.00.

There’ll be lots of talk, lots of laugher, but lots and lots of wisdom from amazing women. Come and #EmbraceEquityand help us to identify what makes the greatest impact.

Do: Whatever you want  - because you are amazing!
