Women-Space to host its first webinar – on how to negotiate

A leading expert on training women in how to negotiate is leading Women-Space’s first webinar, which takes place at 11.00 a.m. on Monday 6 December 2021, 11.00-12.30 a.m. (GMT).

Negotiate with Presence and Credibility will be chaired by Women-Space associate Lisa Akesson who, as well as running her own coaching and training agency, has been a guest speaker on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour and worked with some of the largest organisations in the world.

She is joined by two fellow Women-Space associates. Kathy Harvey is Associate Dean for the MBA and Executive Degrees at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School and a former BBC journalist.

Professor of Legal Education Liz Smart serves on the Independent Ethics Panel of the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and is non-executive director of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority Board.

This webinar will introduce delegates to some key principles and evidence-based practices of negotiation and will explore the ‘likeability penalty’ which women face when negotiating.

Women-Space CEO Prof Christina Hughes said: “Asking for something for ourselves is difficult – especially when we know how gender and ethnicity shape negotiation outcomes. This webinar is for those who hate the thought that they might have to negotiate or are worried about being seen as pushy or as high and mighty.”

The webinar will enable participants to:

  • explore their motivation for their specific situation

  • hear first-hand about the experience of their peers

  • practise a negotiation technique using a situation of their choice

  • receive friendly, actionable feedback

Places are limited for a customised and bespoke experience and are offered on a first-come first-served basis.

While future webinars will attract a fee, organisers of the Negotiate with Presence and Credibility event are instead suggesting participants donate to domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid: https://www.justgiving.com/womensaid with a guideline donation of £10.
